Yuri John Monz, age 31, resident of Moscow, Tennessee, departed this life on Monday, May 29, 2017 in Memphis, Tennessee.
A Funeral Mass for Yuri was held at 10 A.M. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church at 11710 U.S. Highway 64 in Somerville with Father Stephen K. Kenny, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Yuri was born on April 29, 1986 in Perm, Russia. He bravely came to this country in 1999 at the age of 13 to start a new life here, leaving friends, family, country and language. He graduated from Lausanne Collegiate School in 2005 and attended both Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and the University of Memphis.
He enjoyed playing guitar, listening to music and all sports including basketball and soccer. He was kind-hearted and helpful, looked for the good in everyone and was always ready to help those in need. Yuri showed tremendous strength in dealing with adversity and was a committed Christian.
Yuri is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Patricia Monz of Moscow, TN; his sister, Carolyn Olga Monz; and many friends.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Pipe Organ Fund at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 11710 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
