Zozelle "Zo" Baker Pugh, age 96, resident of Memphis, passed away Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital.
Memorial Services for Mrs. Pugh were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, March 28th at Bellevue Baptist Church Pollard Chapel with Dr. Joe Jernigan officiating. A Private Interment was in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Pugh was born May 6, 1918 in Spiro, Oklahoma, the daughter of Troy William Baker, Sr. and Sarah Augusta Byrd Baker. The family moved to Harriman, Tennessee, where Zozelle graduated from Harriman High School. She came to Memphis in 1940 to attend the Baptist School of Nursing where she earned her RN degree. She was employed for the last 35 years of her career at the West Tennessee Chest Disease Hospital, later known as UT Bowld, from which she retired in 1981. She loved sewing and gardening and was known for her beautiful creations.
Mrs. Pugh is survived by her daughter, Sandy Wright (Joe) of Germantown, grandson, Will Wright (Robyn) of Nashville, and granddaughter, Catherine Wright of Chicago, Illinois; her brother, Tom Baker (Betty) of Clarksville, Tennessee; sister, Jane Bryant (Don) of Columbia, Tennessee; nieces and nephews; and her longtime friend, Elaine Capps.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Troy Pugh; her brother, Troy W. Baker, Jr. and sisters, Velmadean Magill, Anita Lawson and Catherine Weaver.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of Applingwood, Carriage Court and Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital - 303 West for providing such loving, dedicated care to Zo during her brief time with them.
