Bonnie Jean Cannon

July 14, 1930 — May 28, 2016

Bonnie Jean "Polly" Martin Cannon, age 85, resident of the District 15 Community and wife of the late John Dave Cannon, departed this life Saturday, May 28, 2016 at her residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Cannon were conducted at 1 P.M. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Don Hammons, pastor of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in the District 15 Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel in Somerville.

Mrs. Cannon was born July 14, 1930 in Fayette County. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married March 21, 1947 to John Dave Cannon. She was employed as a seamstress for Salant & Salant and Somerville Manufacturing Company for many years before her retirement. Mrs. Cannon was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and enjoyed crocheting, writing, talking on the phone and special times with her family. Outdoor activities that included gardening, raising chickens were her favorite pastimes. She was an active member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for 30 years.

Mrs. Cannon is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Brewer and her husband, Jeffery, of Somerville, Cathrine Curtis and her husband, Joe, of Whiteville, Regina Bell of Puryear, TN; five sons, Gene David “Henry” Cannon and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, of Somerville, Phillip Cannon and his wife, Margaret, of Somerville, Paul Martin Cannon of Somerville, Curtis Cannon and his wife, Leslie, of Somerville, Dennis Cannon of Somerville; seven brothers, John Martin, Richard Cannon, Harry Cannon, Theadore Cannon, Charles Cannon Bobby Cannon, Thomas Cannon; her daughter-in-law, Shirley Cannon of Somerville; 31 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Cannon; parents, Elbert Martin and Cathrine Louis Glover Martin Cannon; her daughter, Annie Laurie Moore; her son, James Cannon; her sister, Peggy Maier; her brother, David Allen Cannon; and her grandson, Phillip Jr. (Lil Phil).

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were James Cannon III, Thomas Lee Johnson, BJ Cannon, Quinton Cannon, Dustin Coulston and Cecil Cannon. Honorary pallbearers were Bret Bartholomew, Kevin Lamb, Trey King, Michael Sprayberry and Chris Glover.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 9580 Jernigan Drive, Somerville, TN 38068.
